Southbank Markets
Beginning on Friday night and running through the weekend the Southbank markets are open with an amazing array of crafts by local artists. A wide range of fashion, jewellry, homewares and lifestyle products are available from many of the street vendors.
Located between Little Stanley St and the Southbank Beach you're sure to find interesting people and items.
Southbank Cultural Precinct
The nearby Convention and Exhibition Centre at Southbank often has shows of interest and traditionally on the June long weekend Lifeline holds its massive treasure trove of recycled books which is very popular and sure to offer bargains.
City Attractions
Locally, there are vibrant markets in many parts of Brisbane –
- Saturday morning fresh produce market at Davies Park West End
- Craft market at Riverside Plaza each Sunday
- Friday night markets at Southbank
- City markets on Wednesdays outside the Treasury Casino.
- The Powerhouse theatre in New Farm offers a restored factory setting with wonderful rich textures to the walls and surrounds.
Brisbane parks are active with events often held in various venues.
Wander through Southbank and there is always something to look at – city beaches with swimmers, children playing in the water parks, arbours of shade and sunlight to wander through and sit awhile.
Roma Street parkland is another venue worth a wander and exploration.
Mountain view to the bay
Visit Mt Coot-tha summit for panoramic views of Brisbane, as far as the sandhills of Moreton Island on a clear day.
Do a day trip to Moreton and explore Point Lookout and the wonderful beaches.
The island features white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, refreshing freshwater lakes and lagoons, the Desert region where the one of the world’s highest sand dunes is located, fragile wetlands, breeding grounds for the humpback whales, green turtles and dugongs and masses of amazing birdlife. Moreton Island represents freedom and escape from the constraints of modern urban living, density and stress.
Stay at the resort and take advantage of the abundant supply of activities. Fancy yourself snorkelling and scuba-diving around shipwrecks? Tobogganing at speed down some of the world’s largest sand dunes? Swimming and sailing through crystal clear waters? How about quad-biking along white sandy beaches? One things for sure, keeping busy is not a problem here.
A highlight of any stay on the island is the opportunity to interact closely with native wildlife. Each evening the Tangalooma in-shore dolphins eagerly swim up to the beach, where you have the unique opportunity of hand feeding these magnificent creatures in their own environment.
City by the river
As the River City, Brisbane offers a wealth of opportunities for the photographer.
Take a CityCat day ticket and stop up and down the river from the elegant spacious grounds of University of Queensland with its lakes and water birds upstream to the Port of Hamilton downstream where giant cruise ships dock.
In between, wind through the CBD and under both traffic and pedestrian bridges. Walk across the Goodwill Bridge and the Kurilpa Bridge (both pedestrian) and photograph the sun setting over Mt Coot-tha.
